My portable studio consists of a small sketchbook, a pencil and a fountain pen. I always have them on me so I can use any idle moments to make some sort of note, sketch or idea. Mostly ideas, quickly captured for future exploitation. Having these little idea batteries on hand gives me a sense of professional security. True, being drawn mostly on the fly they are rough, embarrassingly so in places, but what the hell. They are authentic, and the quickest scribbles sometimes have a life of the instant that is not reproducible. Imagine, you're discussing cartooning and cartoonists with some of your clued-in friends, and when a certain name is mentioned, you say, "Oh, I have one of his sketchbooks." Well!
